![]() That was a long way off, especially with her first day of sixth grade starting tomorrow at the local middle school. He expected her to become a surgeon one day. While Delaney remembered Richard - or at least the idea of him - it was greatly limited to him delivering her to the hospital's daycare, or sneaking her up to the gallery he could explain in great detail what was taking place in the O.R. She and Derek greeted him in return as he released his hold, exclaiming a quick apology for any crushed bones. Considering that the last time he had seen her she was in kindergarten, the eleven year old Delaney groaning painfully in his embrace was all grown up. "Look at you, Laney," he greeted, "all grown up." Richard opened his arms wide to pull the girl in for a long, tight hug. The youthful look in his eyes upon seeing Delaney was enough to contrast the dark, cloudy night. When Richard finally pulled on the handle swinging the door completely open, the lights from inside the house aided the porch light in showing just how great the size of his grin was. "I'm your dad, I have to be concerned about your teeth." A few heartbeats passed as the father and daughter continued to wait in a comfortable silence for one of the residents to open the door. "Oh," Derek continued, pointing his index finger at her to emphasize his seriousness, "and make sure you brush your teeth before bed. "As long as it doesn't have broccoli in it, I'm down." Delaney announced, pulling at the straps of the backpack on her back. And please, eat whatever Adele is making for dinner." Don't argue when they say it's time to go to bed. Looking down at Delaney for the duration of their wait, he began to lecture her, "Remember to say please and thank you. The stories her dad told her on the drive from the trailer confirmed her thoughts.ĭerek was the one to knock on the door when they stepped up to the front porch. ![]() Delaney had spent a significant amount of her previous life in the Emerald City sleeping over at the Webber residence. ![]() Yet, as she approached the home of Richard and Adele Webber, she found that she had a few more memories to associate to her early years. Living in New York had been a much larger part of her childhood, so she could only assume that was what took up most of her brain's memory storage. Fleeting images of a small apartment and Seattle Grace Hospital were all she had to date. Seattle, Washington was nothing like Delaney remembered.
